At Not Bossy Nation, we believe leadership isn't about being the loudest person in the room. It's about having the courage to do what's right, the kindness to lift others up, and the confidence to be yourself.
That's why every Not Bossy Nation program, workshop, book, and resource is built around our Brave Leader Framework — a simple, practical model that helps kids develop the skills they need to lead at home, at school, on the playground, and in their communities.
At the center of our framework is the Brave Leader Star, made up of five leadership actions every child can learn and practice.
Share ideas and communicate with confidence.
Brave leaders use their voice. They ask questions, express their thoughts, and speak up when something doesn't feel right. Speaking up doesn't mean being the loudest—it means having the courage to be heard.
Kids learn to:
Share ideas confidently
Ask for help when needed
Express feelings respectfully
Speak up for themselves and others
Do what's right and advocate for others.
Leadership means taking action when someone needs support. Brave leaders stand up against bullying, unfairness, and exclusion. They choose courage over comfort and kindness over silence.
Kids learn to:
Recognize when someone needs help
Include others who feel left out
Show courage in difficult situations
Make choices based on values, not peer pressure
Encourage, include, and support those around you.
Great leaders don't climb alone—they help others rise, too. Brave leaders celebrate others' successes, offer encouragement, and create spaces where everyone feels valued.
Kids learn to:
Give genuine encouragement
Practice kindness and inclusion
Celebrate others' achievements
Build strong, healthy friendships
Take responsibility for choices and actions.
Mistakes happen. Brave leaders don't make excuses—they learn, grow, and move forward. Owning it means taking responsibility, telling the truth, and making things right when possible.
Kids learn to:
Accept responsibility
Learn from mistakes
Follow through on commitments
Build trust through accountability
Stay authentic and true to who you are.
The strongest leaders aren't pretending to be someone else. They're comfortable being themselves. Brave leaders know their values, embrace what makes them unique, and lead with integrity.
Kids learn to:
Build self-confidence
Stay true to their values
Resist negative peer pressure
Develop a strong sense of identity
The Brave Leader Framework isn't just something kids learn—it's something they live. When children practice these five leadership actions consistently, they develop the confidence to face challenges, the character to make good choices, and the courage to positively influence the world around them.
Because at Not Bossy Nation, we believe every child has the potential to lead. Not someday. Today.
